Last night was bitter-sweet for Jake O'Brien and his Lyon team, as they were defeated by Paris Saint-Germain in the French Cup final despite his score. This was Kylian Mbappe's final performance for PSG, marking the end of an illustrious era for the club.
Ousmane Dembele and Fabian Ruiz scored for PSG in the first half of the game, setting a strong foundation before Lyon could respond. In the second half, Jake O'Brien managed to get on the scoresheet for Lyon, narrowing the deficit. However, despite their efforts, Lyon could not overturn the tide in their favor.

Still, for O'Brien, the season signifies an impressive breakthrough. After making his debut in September, he has since been a central part of the team, missing only two games due to suspension, and ended the season as Lyon's second-highest scorer, trailing behind Alex Lacazette only.

Powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain has cemented their status as the most successful team in the history of French Cup, having won the trophy an impressive 15 times now, seven of which were in the last decade since Mbappe's signing from Monaco in 2017.
The victory allowed PSG to clinch both the domestic league and cup titles in what has been Luis Enrique's debut season as the coach. However, their successful domestic campaign is somewhat overshadowed by their exit from the Champions League in the semi-final round against Borussia Dortmund.

The final match was marred by violent incidents involving feuding rival fans. Approximately 100 Lyon supporters and 200 PSG fans clashed at a motorway toll nearly 50 kilometers south of Lille. Two coaches ended up burning, and 20 fans were lightly injured. French President Emmanuel Macron condemned these events.

Despite these side events, PSG managed to hold on to their lead, thanks to a superb save from goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma which kept a radiant Lyon comeback at bay.
